2006 Report on Borromeo Housing, Inc.

to the Arlington Interfaith Council

January 2006

Upcoming Year’s Plans

In 2006, Borromeo Housing is launching two new programs, the Job Readiness and Technology Share Initiative and the Borromeo Housing Scholarship Fund.

The BHI Job Readiness and Technology Share Initiative is a residence-based training on basic computer skills, Internet use, and Microsoft Office applications. In cooperation with Arlington County and Arlington community volunteers, BHI will bring necessary computer training to our clients, in lieu of inconvenient or unmanageable night classes. BHI will supply computers, software, and accessories to the young mothers in the residential care portion of our Second Chance Home program and will use these instruments to teach individual and group lessons about Internet use, Microsoft Office programs, online resources for job searches and research, basic computer care and, as a component of our children’s FOCUS program- an educational curriculum for those children at our facility who are old enough to begin to learn computer basics. Borromeo Housing’s Job Readiness and Technology Share initiative will prove to be a key component in our clients’ transitions to self-sufficiency, and a stepping-stone to these young mothers as they become productive, contributing women of the community.

The Borromeo Housing Scholarship Fund will also launch this year. The Scholarship Fund will be available to program graduates who have the desire to earn their Associates or Bachelors degrees but lack the funds to pursue post-secondary education. With help from our fiduciary partners, BHI will aid scholarship awardees with tuition, school supplies, books, and transportation.

Financial Needs

As we implement our new programs, BHI will work with our fiduciary partners and community donors to guarantee these development opportunities for our teen mothers and their children.  In the coming year, we are hoping to raise enough funds to not only launch these programs but also to fortify them for years to come.  We appreciate the aid of the Arlington Interfaith Council in this endeavor, and we thank you for your assistance in the past.
