Offender Aid and Restoration
Report of 2005 Accomplishments and 2006 Projections
OAR is a community-based restorative justice organization that blends compassion and accountability to assist offenders in leading productive and responsible lives, to the benefit of all.
In 2005, OAR achieved the following:
A total of 3,279 clients were provided with pre and post-release services in Arlington County. Pre-release services are those provided in the jail. Post-release services are services provided once the client has been released.
In 2006, we anticipate serving as many clients as we did in 2005 with generally the same number being served in each category. New additions in 2006 include the creation of a computer lab, which will be installed at our offices for post-release clients to use in training and employment seeking. We will also offer additional post-release employment and educational courses at our Arlington office to help clients continue the training they started while incarcerated.
Our jail-based (pre-release) courses will include a greater number of outside trainers/speakers representing government agencies, employers and educational representatives and will cover a wider variety of topics. And finally, we are working with the local Chubb Institute to establish a partnership whereby our clients are able to enroll in a certificate program for Medical Billing and Coding and receive direct employment placement. These new initiatives will truly help our clients to obtain further education and lasting employment.
We are most grateful to the AIC for their support of OAR over the years. We value this partnership very much.
